Volunteers Needed for Cedar Hospice

August 12th, 2010

Cedar Hospice is looking for compassionate and caring individuals who are good listeners to serve as volunteers for the Cedar home hospice program. Hospice volunteers receive eight hours of training and provide patients with companionship by spending time visiting with them, participating in a favorite hobby such as playing cards or reading. Volunteers are an important part of the hospice team, helping provide emotional and social support for those facing a terminal illness.

Each hospice volunteer is assigned to one patient and typically visits with him or her a few hours per week for as long as they wish. Our hospice volunteers can’t say enough about their hospice volunteer experience, “It is such a warm feeling inside to be helping others in need.” “A gift of presence is all some people need. No words need to be spoken.” “Giving the family comfort in their time of grief is very rewarding to me.” “I have been so inspired by being a hospice volunteer. Patients that I have visited live life to the fullest.”

Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a hospice volunteer or other volunteer opportunities available should contact Bonnie Amerling, Cedar Community volunteer coordinator, at 262.306.4218. The next hospice training is in October.

Cedar Hospice helps provide dignity, comfort and compassion to individuals with a life-limiting illness.  Cedar Hospice serves patients in their private homes, assisted living facility or skilled nursing facility in Washington, Ozaukee, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Waukesha and Sheboygan counties.  For more information visit their website at www.cedarathome.org.
