Amy Kopfmann’s passion for music led her to pursue a degree in music therapy after initially studying music education. Her sister’s battle with brain cancer inspired her to explore the positive impact of music therapy on those facing serious illness. Amy earned her bachelor’s degree from Alverno College and completed her internship in Tampa, Florida, specializing in end-of-life care.
In 2022, Amy joined Cedar Community as a music therapist, where she created the hospice music therapy program. She works across various levels of care, including hospice, independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. “It was like a magical moment when I was hired,” says Amy. Her work includes one-on-one visits, group therapy, and performance, using a variety of techniques like teaching instruments, vocal cord strengthening, and providing emotional support.
Amy’s hospice work holds a special place in her heart. “When you’re part of the hospice program, it’s like having a second family and team that will help support you during this time,” she says. She is deeply moved by the impact her work has on residents and their families as they navigate end-of-life care.
Amy is also an accomplished musician and writer, having written over 20 original songs. She’s authored three poetry books on grief, love, and loss. In addition to her music career, Amy is a downhill ski racer, CrossFit enthusiast, and enjoys painting and spending time with her Husky, Archie Winston.
“I am fortunate to be able to work with so many amazing individuals,” says Amy. Her dedication to both her craft and her patients makes her a valued member of the Cedar Community team.
