Emily Verran was inspired to join Cedar Community by a friend and several family members. While in high school, a friend working in dining encouraged her to apply, leading Emily to work as a dining assistant for two years. After graduating from West Bend East High School in 2016, she followed the advice of her aunts—who had worked at Cedar Community—and applied for a nurse’s aide position.
“I didn’t know where my career path would lead, but my aunts loved working at Cedar Community,” says Emily. Though her aunts have since moved on, she remains grateful for their encouragement. Since graduation, Emily has worked as a nurse’s aide in Cedar Community’s assisted living. In 2020, her supervisor, Kathleen Spott, RN, Director of Nursing – Assisted Living, encouraged her to take the medication technician (med tech) course, a role she held for a few years. She is now the manager of The Willows at Cedar Lake.
Emily’s kindness is deeply valued by residents and families—one resident even expressed wishing Emily were her daughter because of the care and compassion she provides!
